Older Children
Many families choose to adopt older children, either domestically or internationally. Pre-adoptive parents are aware that many older children have been placed in situations in which they have not received adequate care or nurturing. Other children have lived through instances of severe abuse and neglect. The emotional impact of these experiences on children is, of course, tremendous.
Many parents speak to us of wanting to ensure that their children receive the best services possible to help them and their families cope with past loss and pain. But when families begin looking for services, many find a dearth of high quality services that can actually meet the needs of their specific family.
Many time families ask such questions as: Where do we begin to look for services? What kind of services does our child or our family need? How do we evaluate the qualifications of service providers? For how long will my child have to receive these services? When and how do we know that services put in place are actually working for our child?
In order to address these and many other issues regarding older adopted children, OnTrack Adoption Associates offers a consultation service designed to provide specific recommendations regarding the appropriate services for you and your child. Consultations include reviewing the child's past history and current functioning, addressing families' desires and concerns regarding services for the child and family, providing information about the pros and cons of available resources, and providing referrals to highly qualified professionals who specialize in adoption.
