Child Welfare Adoptees
Children who have been adopted through our nation's child welfare systems are children who come with their own unique experiences and challenges. Child welfare adoptees, of course, have most frequently been removed from their biological parents due to issues of abuse and neglect.
Adoptive parents are aware of the short and long term impact of trauma and abuse on children. Yet, many times, when parents are experiencing particularly difficult times of adjustment or challenges with these children, there are few places for parents to go for help and support.
OnTrack Adoption Associates offer support and consultation to families around the unique and challenging issues that may arise with this specific population. Our services include consults around issues of attachment, sexual and physical trauma and neglect. We also help parents develop positive parenting interventions for children who have experienced trauma. Furthermore, we offer information around ways of approaching issues arising from open and closed adoptions as well as addressing questions around cultural and ethnic differences.
Parents who have adopted children through the child welfare system have done so out of a strong sense of love and compassion. We are here to support you in this endeavor during the difficult times.
