Latin American Adoptees: Maintaining a Child's Cultural Heritage
A major goal of OnTrack Adoption Associates is to help all families connect with and integrate their child's cultural heritage with that of their adoptive families.
OnTrackAdoption Associates specializes in helping families who have adopted children or are planning to adopt children from Latin America.
Our service is aimed at helping families and adopted children explore and learn about the many complex cultures and traditions that exist in Latin America. A special focus is placed on the culture and traditions of each child's country of origin.
These services can be helpful to families who want to instill in young adopted children a sense of pride and understanding of their heritage. Adopted adolescent children and their families can also greatly benefit from this service, as many adolescents are frequently eager to learn more about their cultural heritage as they work to form their own sense of identity.
For those parents who are apprehensive about including cultural material into their family's lives, we explore in compassionate ways, the inherent complexities that come up when we open our children to their biological roots. We help you understand and work through issues related to fear and loss.
Cultural Heritage evaluations are performed by Alison Aparicio, LICSW. Ms. Aparicio holds a B.A. in Political Science from Stanford University with an emphasis on Latin American Studies. She has lived, worked, and traveled throughout Latin America. She has provided support and counseling services to Latin American immigrants for over 15 years. She has a special expertise in helping adoptive families integrate their own cultural heritage with that of their adoptive children.
