Problematic Adolescent Behavior
Adolescence is never an easy time. It involves the complicated tasks of forming one's own sense of identity and moving towards independence. For children that have been adopted, this journey can be far more complex and challenging. Studies have shown that adolescent adoptees are at greater risk than non adoptees for behavioral problems and school adjustment issues. Furthermore, many adopted adolescents struggle with developing a sense of self that incorporates elements of both birth and adoptive families. Children at this age also become increasingly interested in discovering their own ethnic/or cultural heritage.
When adolescents struggle to meet these complicated developmental goals families frequently witness such issues as:
Family Conflict
Behavioral Issues
Poor School Performance
Identity Issues
In order to address these issues OnTrack Adoption Associates offers a full line of consultations, evaluations and support. As with our consultations for younger children, adolescent evaluations are designed to provide information and feedback to families aimed at improving children's behavior and strengthening overall family functioning. Families are provided with complete written evaluations, verbal feedback and action plans for change.
